Singapore dating event breaks world record

SINGAPORE – 485 singles participated in a mass speed-dating activity today at Marina Bay Sands, which saw the end of a 5-week dating festival organised by the Social Development Network (SDN).

The event broke the world record for having the most number of singles participating in a speed-dating activity in one place, said a statement. Prior to SDN’s event, the world record was 435 speed-daters, set by a private organisation 5FM in South Africa on Feb 14, 2011.

In total, more than 1,000 singles signed up for over 80 dating events and packages during Dating Fest 2013.

According to a statement from the SDN, the event, held from Dec 29 to Feb 1, saw singles participating in a variety of events and activities organised by the 11 SDNTrust-accredited dating agencies.

The Masquerade Ball Dinner  Dance was supported by eight SDNTrust accredited dating agencies: A Dance Date, Champagne JSG, CompleteMe, Eteract.com, Love Adventures, Lunch Actually, One Plus One, and VivaOne LLP.

When asked why he signed up for the event, 31- year-old Terry Poh shared: “This is the first time I am taking part in speed-dating. My friends found out about the event and invited me to join them. I found the concept of a record-breaking speed dating activity very novel – to have so many people making friends at the same time. I thought I would just come and have fun tonight and use this opportunity to network and expand my social circle. I am excited to have been part of a record-breaking activity!”
