MBS fined RM1.1mil for breaching surveillance

MARINA Bay Sands (MBS) was fined S$475,000 (RM1.1mil) for not maintaining its surveillance system and processes to required standards.

The Casino Regulatory Authority found the integrated resort had failed on three counts and issued the fines under Regulation 3 (2) of the Casino Control (Surveillance) Regulations.

The first penalty of S$150,000 (RM375,000) was for failing to retain casino surveillance footage from Sept 14, 2011 to April 12, 2012.

Casinos are required to keep their video footage for a stipulated period because it is critical to regulatory and law enforcement. The regulator would not say how long that period is.

The second breach, which led to a S$100,000 (RM250,000) fine, was for failing to ensure that specified footage from Dec 17, 2011 to June 14, 2012 was continuously recorded.

The third fine of S$225,000 (RM562,000) was imposed for not having a surveillance system that would notify its users with video or audio alerts of failures in any of its functions.
