SINGAPORE: The Singapore Police Force and Royal Malaysia Police, Jurong Police Division and Johor Police Contingent recently came together to design a series of crime prevention pamphlets, with support from Singapore’s National Crime Prevention Council.
The pamphlets, targeted at travellers on both sides of the causeway, are aimed at raising public awareness on common offences such as theft, cheating scams, violent property crime and outrage of modesty.
A fifth pamphlet advising travellers about common prohibited items has also been produced.
The pamphlets are currently available in two languages – English and Malay.
The Singapore Police Force said there are plans to have the pamphlets translated into more languages for better outreach.

Intercontinental Hotel Singapore
The Singaporean National Environment Agency (NEA) suspended operations of a Cantonese restaurant in a popular hotel after five reported incidents of suspected food poisoning that occurred during wedding and company functions held in late December 2012, according to a Channel News Asia report Jan. 3.
In a joint statement by the Singaporean Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA), the authorities said the suspension on Man Fu Yuan restaurant at the InterContinental Singapore hotel will be lifted after they are able to ascertain no further risk of transmission to guests and the public.
Five functions, including weddings and company banquets, has resulted in the same amount of incidents from late December to early January with a total of more than 200 food poisoning victims.
The victims experienced symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting and fever. The exact causative etiologic agent of the outbreak have not been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
Singapore news source, Today Online reports that the food was mostly served in dishes shared by tables of 10 guests each, said Mr Jimmy Kok, InterContinental Singapore’s Executive Assistant Manager. Only guests at the hotel’s banquet functions have been affected so far. No food poisoning case has been reported by guests dining in Man Fu Yuan restaurant, he said.
Kok said the restaurant is HACCP-certified (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, a system ensuring food safety), with stringent food safety and hygiene measures in place, which includes body temperature checks of staff prior to each event.
The NEA will work with Man Fu Yuan to review its food preparation processes, food supply chain and food handling practices.
